How Dinner Plans works
Dinner Plans turns what's already in your kitchen into tonight's dinner in four steps: point your phone at the fridge, fix anything by talking, get a dinner picked for whoever is home, and cook it one step at a time. It takes about two minutes.
- Point the camera at the fridge. It reads the shelf, quantities included.
- Talk to fix anything. "Six eggs, not two."
- Tonight prints for whoever's home, using what's about to turn.
- Cook one step at a time, timers and all.
How does Dinner Plans know what's in my fridge?
You point the camera at a shelf, and the app reads the items it can see, quantities included. You can also scan a barcode or a grocery receipt, or add items by hand. You review the list before anything is saved.
What if the scan gets something wrong?
Tap the item to change it, or just say what's right: "Six eggs, not two." The voice assistant updates the list for you.
How does it pick tonight's dinner?
Tonight looks at three things: what's in your kitchen (favoring what's about to turn), who is eating tonight and each person's preferences, and what your household has liked, skipped and cooked recently. It suggests dinners you can make now, without a grocery run.
What happens when I start cooking?
Cook mode shows one step at a time in large type, with timers built into the steps that need them. When you mark the meal cooked, the ingredients come out of your pantry.
What else does it do?
- Grocery lists for anything you're missing, which you can shop with Instacart if you like.
- Meal plans for the week, if you want them. You never have to keep one.
- A shared household: one pantry, one plan and one grocery list for everyone in it.
- A cookbook of recipes you save or import from a link or a photo of a recipe card.
What does it cost?
$99/year for your whole household, for the first 100 paying households. After the first 100 households, the annual plan is $149/year. Save $80.88 a year versus paying monthly ($14.99 × 12 = $179.88).
Every plan starts with a 7-day free trial. You subscribe through the App Store or Google Play, and you're charged when the trial ends unless you cancel at least 24 hours before. Cancel anytime in your phone's subscription settings.
